Frigyes Lestak is the European Director of the Global Methane Program, with a mission is to achieve zero flaring and methane emissions in the oil and gas value chain, create value, mitigate climate change and reduce health impacts. He is excited about the opportunity to devote his passion, experience and creativity to the quest.
Frigyes has 30 years’ experience within the oil and gas industry, including policy, strategy, corporate change management, engineering design, operation, technology, new business development, sales and marketing. His expertise cuts across upstream, mid- and downstream.
A recognized climate change leader, Frigyes worked at Shell for 15 years as General Manager and Program Manager. He has set up climate change strategies and managed efficiency and methane reduction programs, including one that delivered a 30% improvement for Shell’s operations.
In support of their efficiency and flare reduction programs, he has developed and managed collaborations with government partners in Saudi Arabia, Russia, Oman and the UK. He has worked alongside the World Bank and other multilateral organizations to drive flare reductions globally. At Shell, he has also taken a lead role to set up an efficiency service business.
Prior to joining Shell, Frigyes worked with MW Kellogg, where as a Technology Manager, he set up efficiency services and commercialized technologies. Frigyes started his career as a lecturer at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UK).
